The Austrian artist Karl Anton Fleck was a member of the artist group Der Kreis (The Circle) and the Viennese Secession. Trained as a photo-retoucher, he worked as a draftsman, painter, illustrator, jazz musician and poet.

His œuvre deals with the phenomena of psychological and social networking between the individual and the mass society. His own identity was increasingly becoming a focus in his work, which was characterized by introspection, loneliness and obsession in later years. He created bizarre and grotesque portraits that move away from the reality and convey the viewer's fragility.
