    In 1867 Karl Buchholz attended the Grand Ducal Saxon School of Arts in Weimar where he was a pupil of the landscape painter Max Schmidt and later a master student of Theodor Hagen. In Weimar he became acquainted with plein air painting, inspired by the French Barbizon School.

    Buchholz painted predominately landscapes of the Weimar environment, capturing the atmospheric changes of the seasons. Buchholz's work includes paintings, oil studies, watercolors as well as drawings and etchings. (tfa)
