About Karl Hubbuch

  • Biography

    Born in Karlsruhe, Hubbuch attended the local State Academy of Fine Arts from 1908 to 1912. He then studied at the School of the Museum of Applied Arts in Berlin under Emil Orlik, where he also met George Grosz. From 1920 to 1922, he was a master student of Walter Conz and Ernst Wuertenberger. In 1922, he studied at the Prussian Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, again under Orlik.

    From 1924, he taught lithography at the Academy in Karlsruhe. In 1928, he was appointed a full-time professor. In 1930, he published along with Hermann Brand, Erwin Spuler and Anton Weber the critical artist magazine Zapko in Karlsruhe (two editions).
