    Karl Raupp (1837-1918)

    Also known as the "Chiemsee Raupp", he favored motifs depicting the local landscape around Chiemsee and its inhabitants. Raupp combined the precision of his observation, characteristic of the Biedermeier style, with contemporary genre depictions.

    The painter received his artistic training in Frankfurt, at the Munich Academy, and from Karl Theodor von Piloty. His most well-known pupils include Karl Wopfner who, like his teacher, also visited the painters' colony on the Fraueninsel on Lake Chiemsee.
