About Katherine Porter

  • Biography

    Expressionist painter Katherine Porter was born in 1941 in Iowa. She studied from 1959 to 1961 at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, receiving a B.A. degree in 1963 from Boston University. She was awarded an honorary Doctorate in 1984 from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. The National Endowment for the Arts gave her a grant in 1972.

    Her exhibitions include biennials in 1976 and 1981 at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City; 1980 at the San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts; 1981, Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire; 1985, Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts; and 1987 at the Sidney Janis Gallery, New York City.
