    Leon Cauvy (1874-1933)

    Primarily an orientalist painter, Cauvy was born on January 12, 1874 in Montpellier, France and died on January 3, 1933 in Algeria, his home for about 30 years.

    He enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in Montpellier in 1890 and was soon the recipient of awards in drawing and design, his main area of study. He exhibited designs at the salons of 1901, 1902, and 1903.

    At the Salon of 1907, he received a third place medal in painting and that same year he was awarded a scholarship for the villa Abd-el-Tif in Algiers. He was one of the first recipients of this scholarship along with Paul Jouve.
