Lawrence Harris is an American painter who was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1937. He has studied art in both the United States and Europe. Harris is known for both impressionistic paintings (such as Abandoned Ship) and abstract compositions (such as The Cross).

His paintings are generally not dated and signed “L Harris” with the ‘L’ and ‘H’ partially superimposed. The Denver Art Museum is among the public collections holding work by Lawrence Harris.[1] This artist should not be confused with the Canadian landscape painter Lawren Harris (1885–1970).

Lawrence Harris (1937-2008) was born in Colorado Springs, CO. A full-time artist for 30 years, he was selected as one of the Top 100 Artists of 100 years of painting in the Pikes Peak region at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center's "A Show of Color '' exhibition.

He has works at the Denver Art Museum, Gallery A in Taos, New Mexico, Denver Art Gallery, Oklahoma Fine Arts Center, Saks Gallery in Denver, CO, and Idar Operstein Gallery in Germany.

......He is a native of Colorado Springs, (CO) and attended schools there. While at North Junior High School, he was awarded a Gold Key in the National Art Scholastic Award competition and also "placed" in the 1000 art contest by the same organization for a watercolor boat scene.

Harris has studied art in this country and in Europe. He has been painting since age 11.
