    Laxman Pai (b. 1926)

    Laxman Pai received his art education at the Sir J. J. School of art in Mumbai, India and there received the prestigious Mayo medal. In 1951, he moved to Paris, together with his artist friend Sadanand Bakre, where they met the artists Syed Haider Raza, Francis Newton Souza and Akbar Padamsee, who had already settled there.

    Laxman Pai immediately enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts, where he studied painting and drawing and experimented with new printing techniques. During the ten years that he lived in Paris, Laxman Pai had nine single exhibitions and further ones elsewhere, exhibiting his works in London, Munich, Hanover, Stuttgart and New York.
