    Leo Ayotte (1909 - 1976)

    Leo Ayotte was a landscape and figure painter.

    He was born in Sainte-Flore, Quebec, a town about 80 miles west of Quebec City, and he died in Montreal, Quebec where he'd lived since 1938.

    His primary medium was oil paint. His subjects were landscapes, portraits, still life, nudes, harbour scenes, shorelines, snowscapes and rivers. His styles include Realism* and Fauvism*. AskART have some good illustrations of his work.

    Ayotte was a self taught artist, however throughout his life he associated with some of the most influential artists and art teachers in Canada. As a young man (c.1938) he worked as a model and caretaker at the Ecole de Beaux Arts*, Montreal and as a model at the Art...
