Leo Diet was born in 1857 in Prague. Diet was a Czech-Austrian painter and inventor. A graduate of the Military University of Technology in Vienna, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague with František Sequens and in Vienna with Hans Canon. Thanks to Archduke Rudolph's support, Leo Diet received a scholarship which enabled him to study in Paris and traveled to Cairo, where he spent the years 1883-87 painting oriental paintings. A graduate of the Military University of Technology in Vienna, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague with František Sequens and in Vienna with Hans Canon. Thanks to Archduke Rudolph's support, Leo Diet received a scholarship which enabled him to study in Paris and traveled to Cairo, where he spent the years 1883-87 painting oriental paintings. From 1895 he taught at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Graz. In 1889 he founded the Salon Rejected, which was the basis of the Vienna Secession. In 1887, he patented a triangle for creating perspective drawings.
