About Leonard Davis

  • Biography

    Landscape painter, muralist and illustrator with a specialty in Alaskan scenes dating from 1898, Leonard Davis was born in Winchendon, Massachusetts. He also painted extensively in the national parks.

    He went to New York City College and then worked as a printer and wood finisher until 1884 when he enrolled in the Art Students League in New York City for five years. Then he studied in Paris at Ecole des Beaux-Arts and Academie Julian under Jean Paul Laurens, Jules Lefebvre and Benjamin Constant.

    An itinerant, he made trips to Alaska where he was a gold miner, and he focused his painting skills on scenes of Alaska.
