    Leonid Lamm biographical photo
    Born in Moscow of the Soviet Union, Leonid Lamm, an artist of Constructionist and Surreal styles, studied at the Moscow Institute of Architecture between 1944 and 1947, and from 1949 to 1954 at the Moscow Poligraphic Institute.

    In 1973, he was thrown in jail for applying for an exit visa. Surreptitiously he made drawings of the gulag, which were smuggled out when he was released in 1976.

    In 1982, he immigrated to New York City.In the 1950s in Russia, he did Constructivist style art which could have landed him in jail.
