    Leonid Mikhailovich Steele (Lebeden, Ukraine, November 4, 1921 - Los Angeles, October 4, 2014)

    Leonid Steele's life speaks of his brilliance and fortitude as well as the historic times, politically and artistically, in which he lived. Steele was born in Lebeden, in Ukraine, and while still in his early years, cheated death several times. He managed to live through the horrors of the 1933 famine in the Ukraine when Stalin sent grain to Western markets while millions at home were left to starve.
