About Leza McVey

  • Biography

    From Cleveland, Ohio, Leza Sullivan McVey became a ceramist, sculptor, teacher, and weaver. She was a student at the Cleveland Institute of Art, graduating in 1931; studied at the Colorado Fine Arts Center from 1943 to 1944; and was a student of ceramic sculptor Alexander Blazys in Cleveland. She also studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art ,and then became a teacher there from 1948 to 1953. After this period, she returned to the Cleveland area, where she spent the remainder of her life.

    From 1936 to 1938 and 1939 to 1947, she lived in Texas where her sculptor and painter husband, William Mozart McVey, taught at the Museum School of Art in Houston and then at the University of Texas. During this ...
