  • Biography from Kunstauktionshaus Schloss Ahlden

Lisel Oppel was born in 1897 in Bremen. She was influenced by impressionism, Otto Modersohn and Paula Modersohn Becker. Oppel studied in Bremen and Munich at Ernst Müller-Scheessel. Since 1919 she was based in Worpswede. As an independent artist who refused entry to the Reich Chamber of Culture, she was only able to paint to a limited extent from 1933 to 1945. The largest part of her oeuvre with landscapes, portraits, rural scenes and children's motifs was therefore created in the 1950s.
