    Lorenzo Gignous was the nephew of the painter Eugene Gignous. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, where in 1884 Mylius gets the prize for the historical landscape with a view of the town of Sesto Calende Lake Maggiore, the place of the landing of Garibaldi and the regiments of Hunters of the Alps in May 1859. This landscape recurs frequently in his repertoire, becoming a characteristic theme of his entire production of strong matrix naturalist.

    Gignous participated in the main national art exhibition at the time, quickly establishing himself as a landscape artist. The intense pictorial supports, until 1922, the employment in the State Railways, thanks to which Gignous obtained important public commissions.
