Adolphe Hervier
  • Biography

Louis Adolphe Hervier (1818-1879) was a French painter, engraver, draughtsman and lithographer most associated with the Romantic movement in art. Hervier was born in Paris in 1818 to Marie-Thérèse Ernouf and Marie Antoine Hervier.

LA Hervier studied art under his father, Marie Antoine Hervier (active 1810-1820), a miniature painter and former student of Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825) and Louis François Aubry (1767-1851). LA Hervier—sometimes referred to as Adolphe Hervier—received some additional training under Charles Dusaulchoy (1781-1852) and worked in the studios of Leon Cogniet (1794-1880), Alexandre Gabriel Decamps (1803-1860) and probably Eugene Gabriel Louis Isabey (1803-1886), a friend of his father.
