    Louis Dürr (1896-1973) first attended the Gewerbeschule in Basel, studying drawing. From 1921 he studied at the Académie Julian in Paris and later in Munich. During this time he undertook study trips to Vienna and Milan. In 1924 he returned to Switzerland and settled in Berne in 1931, where he worked as a freelance artist.

    Initially Dürr was strongly inspired by the Impressionists, later his works also show the influence of Wilhelm Leibl’s realism. In addition to several portraits, Dürr’s oeuvre comprises mainly landscapes of his homeland.
