Louis Hayet is a French post-impressionist painter, born in Pontoise on August 29, 1864, and died in Cormeilles-en-Parisis on December 27, 1940.
His parents, Calixte Hayet and Léontine Dufour, were very poor. At school, he was shy and reserved but was considered intelligent and gifted. His predisposition for painting appeared in 1876. From 1877 to 1884, he traveled the roads with his father, who was a traveling merchant. He joined the neo-impressionist group, Camille Pissarro, Paul Signac and Georges Seurat. First pointillist, it returned to a more classic way in 1890 and Paul Signac removed all mention of Louis Hayet in the second edition of his work D'Eugène Delacroix to neo-impressionism (the pointillism manifesto).
He painted scenes of circus and urban landscapes in the spirit of Seurat. He had a workshop in La Frette, and realized many landscapes of the surroundings. He also painted the marine subjects of his travels in Brittany, and the views of Montmartre, where he had a studio in the rue d'Orchampt in 1890.
In 1894, he was a witness at the marriage of the painter Georges Tardif, the mayor of the 18th arrondissement of Paris. Hayet, without ceasing to paint, devoted much time towards the end of his career to scientific research on pigments or color.
Lugne-Poe, asked him since his meeting in 1894, and for thirty years, the realization of sets for the theater of the Work, without obtaining his cause. His cousin, director of the school of Alembert de Montévrain, hired him as professor of ornamental drawing, a post he kept until 1911.
In 1910, he won the Lépine Competition for his articulated tripod with his triptych table1.
A college in the town of Cormeilles-en-Parisis (Val-d'Oise) received the name of the painter in his homage.
