    Louis-Marie Sicardi (1743-1825) was born in Avignon and was a member of the Academy in Bordeaux. Between 1773 and 1776, he lived in Paris, where he worked at the court of Louis XVI. He made several portraits of Louis XVI., Marie Antoinette and the king's sisters.

    Between 1791 and 1891, he exhibited portraits and scenes from the Italian Comedy at the Louvre Salon. Works by Sicardi are today in the collections of the Louvre, the Musée Jacquemart-André in Paris, the Bayerische Nationalmuseum in Munich, the Wallace Collection in London and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
