About Louis Nattero

  • Biography from Accademia Fine Art

Louis Alexandre Nattero, born 1870, died 1915, is a painter from Marseille with a passion for drawing. He produced his first works around the age of eleven, portraits that he managed to sell to earn a living. He began studying at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Léon Bonnat, but suffered from lead poisoning and returned to his hometown. His talent was quickly recognized, and his paintings were a great success, participating in numerous exhibitions. Louis Nattero was a painter of the Mediterranean, but also of Venice. For him, the sea was an expressive subject: twilight, the still waves of the calanques, fishermen hauling in their nets in an almost hushed calm.
