    Lucas Achtschellinck was born in 1626 in Brussels and became one of the notable Flemish Baroque landscape painters associated with the group known as the “Painters of the Forêt de Soignes.” Achtschellinck trained under Pieter van der Borcht, whose workshop provided him with a strong grounding in the naturalistic and atmospheric landscape traditions that flourished in mid-seventeenth-century Brussels.

    Achtschellinck developed a refined approach to wooded landscapes, often depicting the dense, undulating terrain of the Forêt de Soignes with a sensitivity to light, depth, and spatial rhythm.
