About Luigi Rossi

  • Biography

Luigi Rossi studied at the Accademia di Brera in Milan under Giuseppe Bertini. In the 1870s and early 1880s he devoted himself to landscape painting, celebrating his first successes in various exhibitions. During his stay in Paris from 1885-1889 he worked as an illustrator of novels.

Inspiration for his paintings, which were often reproduced and printed graphically, came from Milan daily life as well as in the rural areas of Lombardy and Ticino. As a member of the Association of Lombard Watercolourists around Gola Emilio, Rossi created numerous genre paintings and landscapes which were very popular.
