    Maurits Cornelis Escher (M.C.) is known for his graphic art and is best known for his so-called impossible structures, such as "Ascending and Descending", "Relativity", his Transformation Prints, such as "Metamorphosis I", "Metamorphosis II" and "Metamorphosis III", "Sky & Water I or Reptiles".

    He did realistic styled work during the time he lived and traveled in Italy such as in Castrovalva where one already can see Escher's fascination with perspective. The lithograph "Atrani", depicting a small town on the Amalfi Coast, was made in 1931, but is referenced in "Metamorphosis I and II".
