  • Biography

    Marc-Antoine Bissiere, Louttre Bissiere (b.1926)

He was born in Paris in 1926, son of well known artist Roger Bissiere (1888-1964), who nicknamed him "loutre" (Otter). The younger artist adopted the name to distinguish himself from his father and establish his own identity.

He started painting in 1942. Early in 1944, under the name of Antoine Bissière, he exhibited his first works at the Galerie de France with his father and friends (Bertholle, Jean Le Moal, Manessier, Gustave Singier, Etienne Martin). From early 1945 on, Loutre spent two years working with his father: « they were 2 years of sharing. I was offering him my spontaneity, he was offering me his experience ».
