Marek Sobczyk was born in 1955 in Poland. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in the years 1975-1980 in the studio of Stefan Gierowski. In the early 1980s, he painted abstract, multi-colored compositions composed of repetitive elements or simplified, synthetic natural shapes. In 1983 Sobczyk joined Gruppa, participating in almost all of its speeches, and co-edited its journal "Oj well already", in which he published numerous theoretical texts. In the early 1980s he painted pictures referring to martial law (Gandzia, 1983), taking also the "Indian" theme, characteristic of that time and the circle, as a current metaphor.
