About Marilyn Levine

  • Biography

Sculptor Marilyn Levine, born in 1935 in Alberta, Canada, moved from painting, functional pottery, and geometric ceramics to later become known for realistic ceramic sculpture. These latter pieces simulate leather items like handbags, garments and satchels that by means of their wear and tear imply a similar human condition.

Levine was educated at the University of Regina and the University of Alberta in Canada, and University of California, Berkeley. She received an award from the Canada Council, and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. She has exhibited at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, and O.K. Harris Gallery, New York City.
