    A self taught Canadian Inuit* sculptor, Mark Totan was born in Igloolik, Nunavut (an island in Foxe Basin, near Melville Peninsula, which is above Hudson Bay) and has lived in Edmonton, Alberta since 1993. He has also lived in Hall Beach, Nunavut (about 50 miles south of Igloolik) and in Iqaluit, Nunavut (southern Baffin Island). He has been sculpting since about 1989.

    His mediums include stone from many locations in addition to the Arctic, such as India, China, and throughout the Western Hemisphere. His subjects include Arctic wildlife (especially bears), Inuit genre* (hunting, fishing, dancing, and inukshuks), whimsy, humor, and occasionally non arctic related subjects such as buffalo.
