    Marko Rašica (Rasica) was born in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on November 13, 1883. He is drawn from childhood vocation as a painter. His first paint job was in 1903. He made sets for the play Equinox, played in the theater of Dubrovnik. The play did really well, and it attracted public attention to his work. He won a grant from the municipality of Dubrovnik for studying in Vienna.

    In autumn 1903, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he studied for four years. At this time, he works showed pleinairiste influence, but his works are often inspired by the morphology and secessionist symbolism.
