About Matei Rosianu

  • Biography

Influenced by Cezanne and Bissière, cubist in form, activist on the bottom, discreet and light in the decorative arts, dark in the postwar expressionism, Matei Rosianu is an eclectic artist unknown. Romanian-born painter (1897-1969), he moved to Paris in 1919 and pursues artistic studies.

Profoundly influenced by Cubism, his early works are still lifes and intimate figurative paintings. In 1929, he joined the Communist Party and adds a social dimension to his art. There followed a period activist and artistic active, with point lift the Exposition des Artistes Révolutionnaires, back upstream in 1934 with Aragon.
