    Matt Lindstrom (1889 – 1975) (1)

    A well-known western Canadian painter, Matt Lindstrom was born in Helsinki, Finland. He immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta (city and environs) in 1929 and lived in Calgary, Alberta from 1932 until his death. His works are in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of Alberta (Edmonton) and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (Edmonton).

    Lindstrom’s medium was primarily oil paint; however, according to our sources, there are some watercolors. His subjects were landscapes, figures, the prairie, rural scenes, the Rocky Mountains, 19th century native Indian and western genre*, western Canadian historic events, birds, wildlife, farm animals, and seascapes.
