    Maurice Blieck (1876-1922) was born in Laeken in Belgium and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels around 1894-96. He produced portraits, landscapes seascapes and harbour scenes. Maurice Blieck later moved to Paris and was influenced by Impressionism. He was a founder member of The Brussels Le Sillon in 1893 together with, Jef Lambeaux, Alfred Bastien, Jean Laudy and Maurice Wagemans. During the First World War he lived successively in Paris and London. His style was realistic with some impressionist influences but later evolved towards the direction of Symbolism together with the painter's Jules Merckaert and Paul Mathieu.
