    Maurice Taquoy was born at Mareuil-sur-Ay in the Marne region of France in 1878. He lived and worked in Paris, and exhibited from 1905 at the Salon des Indépendants and Salon d’Automne, as well as other major Parisian venues. He also worked in Deauville where he was often chosen to illustrate the racing programs. All the paintings we have seen by him have a very pleasing colour scheme, and although you would hardly believe it from this painting, his style was often based on a sort of decorative cubism. . He was also a skilled watercolourist and engraver. He illustrated the book “Le pesage” by Jean Trarieux. He also designed scarves for the Hermes fashion house for a period of time.
