    Maurine Cantey was a versitle artist known for her portrait work, murals, and graphic design work. With the exception of a short period of time in Pasadena, California in the 1940s, Cantey worked primarily in Dallas, Texas, and a curtain mural by her is at the Acoustical Shell in the Fair Park Auditorium in Dallas.

    Cantey was born in Fort Worth, Texas. She studied at the Dallas Art Institute and under George Luks in New York City, New York. She died in Dallas, Texas

    Affiliations for Cantey included Allied Artists Club of Fort Worth, and the Southern States Art League. Exhibitions include, Annual Texas Artists Exhibition, Fort Worth, Southern States Art League Annual Exhibition, and the Texas Centennial Exposition, Dallas.
