About Max Stobbe

  • Biography

The artist Max Stobbe, who was born in Altona, was active around the turn of the century until the middle of the 20th century and devoted himself primarily to realistic scenes of everyday life in his home city of Hamburg. He also captured in his drawings numerous streets and alleys of Hamburg that were destroyed at the latest in the turmoil of the war and no longer exist as they can be seen in Stobbe's drawings. The views of Hamburg's Gängeviertel are of particular interest, as this was completely demolished in the course of modern urban planning until the 1960s.
