Biography
Maximilian Eduard Gallus Thedy (1858-1924) was a German painter, draughtsman, and graphic artist, representative of the Weimar school of painting. Orphaned early, he was trained by Hamburg painter Georg Friedrich Louis Reinhardt and encouraged by Johann Baptist Hofner. He studied at the Munich School of Applied Arts and the Munich Academy under notable teachers. In 1882, he was appointed professor at the Weimar School of Art, where he taught until 1919 and served as deputy director. He traveled for study to Überlingen and the Netherlands, briefly taught at the Bauhaus Weimar, and was a professor at the re-established Weimar Art Academy.
