    Artist Max Uhlig was born in 1937 in Dresden. Uhlig lived in Helfenberg (Dresden) from 1951 to 1956. Uhlig studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts under Hans Theo Richter and Max Schwimmer. From 1961 to 1963 Uhlig was a Master student of Hans Theo Richter at the German Academy of Arts Berlin. Uhlig did freelance work since 1964.

    Since 1990 Uhlig was a member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund and a founding member of the Saxon Academy of Arts. From 1995-2002 Uhlig was a Professor of Painting and Graphics at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts.
