Michael Nelson Jagmara was born in Pikilyi, west of Yuendumu, and grew up "in the bush, without clothes", seeing the white men for the first time at Mt Doreen Station.

Michael Nelson Jagamarra perfectly embodies the tradition while being open to the Western world. He is today one of the spiritual leaders for the Warlpiri.

Michael always painted in a different style, not hesitating to combine several Dreams on the same canvas, which only a few very rare artists do. He also tried to create visual effects by working the background in different ways.
