    Michal Stanko was born in 1901. He became a landscape painter who lived in Miechów in his early youth. During World War I, he fought in the Legions. In the years 1927-1939 Stanko stayed mainly in Zakopane. He painted numerous Tatra landscapes and collaborated with Janusz Kotarbinski while working on the polychrome of the new parish church (1932-1934). He also lived temporarily in Sosnowiec. He belonged to, founded in 1929 by Stanislaw Szukalski, "Rogate Heart Strain", taking the name Michal from Sosnowiec. In 1939, Stanko voluntarily joined the army, taking part in the September campaign. In the years 1942-1943 he performed a polychrome in a church in Kozieglowy near Czestochowa.
