Modest Cuixart was a Spanish painter born in Barcelona in 1922. He studied at the Free Academy of Painting in Barcelona and was a founding member of the Dau al Set group in 1948. Cuixart's work was influenced by surrealism and he had a strong sensitivity towards the expressive force of color.

He later immersed himself in material informalism and introduced collage in his work in 1962, which gradually led him to pop-art. In the seventies, Cuixart exhibited in numerous national and international capitals and freed his painting from aggressive aspects to give it a more lyrical tone. He continued to work with exuberant colors and shapes and reincorporated a more material figuration in his work.
