Johannes Hermans
  • Biography

Originally from Antwerp, where he started his activity and is registered in the guild of San Luca in the middle of the fourth decade, Johannes Hermans ( Monsu Aurora) stayed in Rome where he settled happily and one of his major clients became Camillo Pamphilj, a passionate hunter and lover of hunting themed works.

Made with a cold and detached objectivity, the still life of Monsu Aurora highlights the ascendancy exercised on him by the works of Jan Fyt and Pieter Boel, who had stayed in Rome before 1650, as well as his contacts with Nicaise Beernaerts, known in Italy under the pseudonym of Monsu Nicasio.
