    Moritz Melzer is born in 1877 in Albendorf, Bohemia. In 1891 he was trained as a porcelain painter and draughtsman at the School of Applied Arts in Gablonz. From 1903-1908 he studied at the Academy of Arts in Weimar under Ludwig von Hofmann, Max Thedy and Hans Olde.

    Together with Georg Tappert Melzer founded a school of Fine and Applied Arts, followed by trips to Paris and Florence. Melzer was a member of the Berlin Secession, and co-founder of the New Secession in 1910 as well as the November Group in 1918.

    Since 1921 he worked as teacher at the Municipal School of Art in Berlin and became a member of the Deutscher Werkbund and the Deutscher Künstlerbund. In 1937 his works were labeled as ‘degenerate...
