    Born in Odessa, Nicolai Isaiev was a painter, illustrator and theatre decorator. He moved to Paris in 1925 and studied art at the Ranson Academy. At this stage, he mainly painted landscapes, still lifes and portraits. Nicolai was in the army during the First World War. He immigrated to Belgrade in 1919, where he worked at the National Theatre as a decorator. Issaiev's works were exhibited in Brussels, Paris and Belgrade. After the Second World War he moved to Switzerland, then to Italy, and finally to Spain. In the 50s and 60s, Issaiev exhibited his works in several Parisian galleries.
