    Olof Sager-Nelson was a Swedish artist born in Värmland. His life was marked by tragedy, with his mother passing away when he was young and his father leaving for the United States after being imprisoned. Sager-Nelson's artistic career took off in 1893 when he received funding for study in Paris, where he settled in a gloomy studio and became involved in symbolist and occult circles. He never returned to Sweden and created his most significant works abroad before passing away at the age of 27 from tuberculosis.
