    Orhan Peker was born in Trabzon, in Northeastern Turkey, in 1927. He studied at the State Academy of Arts in Istanbul under the painter and poet Bedri Rahmi from 1946 until 1951. Just after having finished his studies, Peker's works where shown in a solo exhibition in Istanbul, which attracted international attention.

    In 1956, Orhan Peker attended Oskar Kokoschka's summer academy in Salzburg. In the following years he worked successfully as an independent artist in Paris, Brussels, Cologne and Munich before moving back to Turkey at the end of the 1950s.
