It was Quinaux who, realizing his potential, encouraged him to attend the Academic de Bruxelles. Here, under the direction of Jan Stallaert, he studied architecture and painting. In 1900, he graduated, and after a series of quite lengthy trips to England, Spain and France he settled in Brussels. His paintings of landscapes, town scenes and still-lifes are full of color and light and owe much to the influence of the French Post Impressionists.
