    Born in Boskovice, Moravia, Kubín studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague between 1900 and 1904. In 1907, he and his fellow students founded the Osma group. His art was influenced not by Edvard Munch, but rather by Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. From the outset, he sought a calmer, more lyrical expression, a kind of moderate expression. Before moving to Paris, he joined the Groupe des Artistes Plasticiens in 1911 and became interested in Cubism, exploring a more rigorous construction and more geometric forms. However, his sense of moderation and balance prevented him from moving towards an overly radical cubism: his approach was closer to an expressionist simplification serving a spiritual message.
