    Otto Fröhlicher lived from 1840 to 1890. Born in Solothurn, Otto Frölicher studied under the guidance of Johann Gottfried Steffan at the Academy in Munich from 1859. From 1863 to 1865, he continued his studies in Düsseldorf. He there was inspired by the paintings of Oswald Achenbach.

    In 1868, he moved to Munich and discovered the ‘intimate mood landscape’ of Adolf Heinrich Liers. From 1877, he worked as a professor of painting. Frölicher joined the artist group Kassandra and the artists association Allotria.

    Today, works by the artist are in major museum collections, including the Art Museums in Bern and Solothurn, the Kunsthaus Zürich and the Neue Pinakothek in Munich. (cko)
