    Otto Hamel (Also Hammel) was born in 1866 Erfurt. Otto Hamel was a landscape, architecture and genre painter. He studied at the art school Erfurt in Eduard von Hagen and Hans Semper. He was a student of the educational institution of Decorative Arts in Berlin with Max Koch and Franz Skarbina. In 1886 Otto received a state scholarship in Italy, and 1887 owned a studio in Berlin. From 1889-1890 he was at the Academy Julian in Paris with Benjamin Constant, R. Fleury and Lefebvre. From 1890 to 1922 he worked as a professor at the school of Applied Arts in Hannover, and went on study trips to the Netherlands, Austria, Hungary, France, Spain, Italy and Dalmatia.
