Born in Cuenca, Ecuador, Pablo Cardoso is perhaps one of his country's most established contemporary artists within the international art circuit. Cardoso's blurred paintings are typically based on his own black-and-white photographs that are taken out of focus and as part of a sequential narrative that asserts notions of time and place. The latter is further accentuated through the titles of the paintings that often reveal the precise geographical coordinates of the location depicted. the photographic register is then painstakingly recreated through what the artist refers to as a "literal brush."
